Help-Portrait Delaware | Press Release

Well, Help Portrait 2010 has come and gone. It was a great day with great results. Special thanks to our volunteers!

118 individuals + 1 dog photographed

22 volunteers

over 175 5x7 portraits given out

A few thoughts on the day:
"The very first sitting of the day, was a single, pregnant mother, with her 8th grade son. It was their first professional portrait together.  While we were taking the photos, her baby started kicking and it became very emotional for her. She began to cry, and this whole process became more meaningful for all of us. She also began to cry when we showed her the framed, finished photo. Her baby will be named Nevaeh, HEAVEN backwards"

"The biggest smile we saw all day was not when we took the photos, it was when we handed them prints of their portrait."

"We also learned that help portrait is not just about giving to those less fortunate, but also about giving back to those that have done something good for others. One family was not necessarily "less fortunate", but they had adopted a child  that was in need of a home.  They have been that boy's parents since the day he was born, and they deserved a professional portrait in celebration of their new family. He is now 6 months old, and in a loving home."

2011 event will be on December 3!

HELP PORTRAIT DELAWARE

Hello everyone!!  Help-Portrait Delaware is only 7 days away, so it is crunch time!

On December 4th at the Presbyterian Church on North Bedford Street in Georgetown we will be giving to those in need. From 10am-4pm we will have 3 photography stations setup. We will take families’ portraits and print them on site for them to take home that day. Our volunteers will help out as photographers, workers on the computers, greeters, runners, and acting as assistants to those getting their portraits taken. This is a global movement with photographers, but the only one in Delaware!!!

Remember, it is not just about the portraits, it is about making these people feel loved and appreciated. We want them to know that we are there for THEM!

So here is what we still need:

  1. Please email me at info@kamphotography ,com  by Tuesday, Novemeber 30th and let me know your available times that day you can commit.  This so I can make a schedule by Friday and email out to you. We will meet at 9 for set-up and conclude between 4-5.

  1. Which part of the volunteering will you feel comfortable doing? The more jobs you can do, the better.

  1. Many of you have mentioned bringing friends to help. AWESOME! I will need their names, availability, and how they would like to help as well.

  1. We have all the equipment we need for backgrounds and lighting. Those bringing these items already know who they are. Photographers-please bring your own camera and memory cards, or extra equipment you may have just in case it is needed.

  1. We have 3 computers, but only one printer as of now. We are looking for someone to donate the use of 2 printers on that day. Extra ink on hand may be a good idea, too.  We just need the printers for the day, not to keep. Any printer that will handle color, photo paper will work.

  1. We need photo paper to be donated. Staples has some that we plan use and have purchased some already. Staples brand, 5x7 photo paper, 50 in a pack. Around $16. We need 3-4 more packs.

  1. We are also looking for individuals to do hair and makeup. Not anything major, but just a touch-up or comb-through to make people feel special.  So someone can volunteer for this or mention it to a stylist you may know.

  1. A couple of mirrors for people.

  1. We would like to have a few sets of crayons and coloring books to keep kids occupied while the families wait for the portraits to be printed.

  1. Some background music and a way to play it.

  1. We would also love to have some paper frames or clear photo sleeves to put the prints into for people.  Here in some info:

  1. Food for volunteers and our guests. Items that are individually wrapped would be great. Such as granola bars, small bags of chips, crackers, etc. A couple cases of water. Also, please bring a few dollars if are interested in getting lunch-we can order as a group. We are expecting 40-60 people total including families, and volunteers.

  1. We understand how busy schedules can be. If you are unable to donate your time on Saturday, or want to do more,  please consider donating any of the items listed above. Any contribution is appreciated!  Just let us know what you are willing to provide. I will keep you all updated as contributions come in so we don’t have too many repeats.

Finally, it looks like we have 20-24 families to photograph that day. We have the resources to photograph more. So, if you know of a family that would truly appreciate this opportunity, please pass the word along to them or others you may know. It could be a single mother, a family with a parent in the service overseas, a grandparent with cancer and their family, etc. Please let me know if you have anyone that is interested or have them contact me so we can schedule them a time.

Thanks in advance for your time, donations, and giving from the heart this holiday season!! Let me know if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Keith Mosher
